I hate modding in games.

4 Nov

I hate modding in games. Not all types of modding, but especially two types.

Modding, according to wikipedia, is “the act of modifying hardware, software, or virtually anything else, to perform a function not originally conceived or intended by the designer, or achieve a bespoke specification.

I hate modding when its cheating.

One of the best things on console gaming is that modding is a rarity. Yes, it happens, but one knows quickley who and at least on Xbox there is an option to get the cheaters banned. Its annoying to play (espeically against) someone who mods.

I hate modding when it ruins original work.

I “modded” the Mona Lisa. Arent I the genious?

Sometimes people ruin games by customizing it. Its like taking a movie and re-edit it. I am kind of skeptical to pointing this out, as first of it damages no one. But in many ways I feel that modding can ruin the game. Its hard to explain, but I see art as something…

I don´t know.

I just don´t like it, okay? Let´s say I am ambivalent to it. I do see the fun, but also I find it objectionable too. Never mind.

No, YES MIND! I just remembered one of the things that makes modding on single player annoying. It ruins the games need for unlockables. Unlockables are in-game rewards that one is given for finishing the game, or doing something in game that is difficult. Modding makes this irrelevant. One can just access the files and get it without the strife. Its like everyone gets a rewards for not doing anything. AAAAAND I DONT LIKE IT.

Here is an example that just occurred to me. I play Resident Evil Revelations 2 Raid mode. In that game one makes better parts by adding two parts together. It can take a loooooooooooong time to get the best parts and one needs patience and strategy. Now… One day I just thought “Right now someone has modded the game so that they have the best parts already. Who is the fucking fool?” I mean… In and of itself there is no harm in one person choosing the hard way and another the easy way (most modding is just tampering with a text file) but still can ruin the fun.

The main problem is cheating!!! Destroying the game for fun is not really a big concern. But when one mods the rules, even in single player, that can affect gameplay in a community. Especially when it comes to achievements. But then again getting achievements trough modding is cheating.

The sum is that modding should be a PC thing. Consoles should try to compete with PC by having strict anti-modding policies. So can cheaters go to PC and cheat each other and then we who like playing fair stay on console. But one thing that IS fun with modding is that one can make the game more to ones own liking. I wish more games had that function in the game. Options to make ones own maps, customize characters and other ways to be creative.

Let´s Play Farming Simulator

18 Nov

I bought this game for a laugh and I laughed. Now I don´t play it anymore. I guess the final laugh was on me?

It has never really been my dream to be a farmer. If more of the game have been about animals and less about plowing, sowing and harvesting then I would have enjoyed it more. But I guess the life of a farmer is more about slaughtering animals then petting them.

Sometimes I think… I should play it some more? Perhaps make another let´s play of it as well. But… Nah… Can´t be bothered. Or… Maybe… hmm… Not today at least….

But it is a funny strange game. It´s so boring its funny.

Oh, and I made that intro song.

Why I hate PC gaming, and cant stand PC gamers!

23 Feb

This will be my first rant on gaming and belive me a rant it shall be. I am pissed off! But first I need to share a little bit of a backstory.

A little bit of a backstory

I don´t know if you´ve heard but Xbox One came out and it was awful. As a 360 player I wanted the Xbox one to be good, but that console was purely made for the developers. The consumers it had the least in mind (if at all). Everything was wrong with the console and the list grew longer everyday. From the start it was bound to fail, but just when you thought Microsoft couldn’t stoup any lower they seemed to find a new way.

The Xbone, as it soon would be called, became a parody of a sleazy merchant trying to sell all kinds of disadvantages as something positive. I soon got the feeling I should retire as a gamer and focus on my yacht sailing, poetry writing or basket weaving instead. The Xbone was just not apperticing and there was no other gaming platform I wanted to jump on.

I never liked Playstation. I found it always to be an impersonal console that always was “more powerful” than competitors… but that was it. No innovation other than pixel power. The PS4 was the same thing. Oh, yes, it was “more powerful” than Xbone and Wii U. So what else is new? That has always been the case. Sony likes the console monster but it has nothing more to offer than power.

The Wii U had the opposite problem. Where Sony had much power but no innovation, Wii U had no power and all innovation. I got burned by the old Wii and knew that a new Wii U was not an option. Being on the console losing side is always a sad thing. When every other game is sold on the other consoles and you got some obscure games no one want to play.

It seemed that no console was for me. Then a friend of mine got converted into the cult of PC gaming. He, as me, was a 360 player who knew that the Xbone was not an option. If Microsoft didnt turn their wicked ways then we had to go elsewhere for our e-game fun. My friend had discovered Steam and wanted be to awaken and see the joy of PC gaming aswell. I said “No!”. I had been a PC gamer myself back in the day and I knew for experience that PC gaming was worse than most.

The Rant!

getontheforums

PC gaming is the worst! It is the most annoying thing ever!!! To me it is a riddle how someone can even be bothered with it as everything is a effing hazzle. Yes, you get the best graphic on PC. Yes, a mouse makes a better aimer than a joystick. AND THAT IS IT!!! Everything else is better on a console. Here is a list of the top 5 worst things about playing on a PC.

1) Constant compatibility stress!

Every year new chips, cards and other hardware is put out on marked. And games on PC always is the cutting edge when it comes to graphics. That is its good side. The bad side is that this makes stress for game buyers as they have to make sure that the game is possible to play on their computer. If you have a mac then certain games are not usable on that. If you use linux fewer games still. And then it is a question of OS. I had to buy a new computer to play the EXPANSION PACK on StarCraft 2. I got a message from Blizzard that said that the next update for StarCraft 2 would make it incompatible with my Mac OS. What the FUUUUUUUUU?!?! Then I bought a cheap new computer with Windows 8. Now I can finally play StarCraft 2 Heart of the Swarm but it is a bit laggy of course. You know, since I bought a laptop that was suppose to be a little more than a gaming platform.

2) Installing games
Having to install games is annoying. I know that consoles have to do it now aswell, but that is dumb. Especially when you have to write in configuration keys and register online etc. etc. I dont even think the Xbone demands that much installing.

3) Outdated computers.
When you buy a console you buy it for convenience. If the game says Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii you know it is going to work on your console. That is not so on PC. I have written above about computability issues. And there is a lot of those. One of them is having computer that is not the newest. I remember that from youth. I bought a computer and was so happy cuz now I could play the latest games. Two-three years later I could still buy games that was new but… it was bad! Really, really bad. The games were lagging, even on low resolution. The computer froze constantly and the gaming experience was not enjoyable at all. I could ofcourse just “buy a new computer” or “buy new hardware” and I did that. But that is stress and inconvinence. When I have to update everything from hardrive to grapchic card just to play a game. That is annoying!

4) Bugs and glitches.
Sometime you get errors when playing a console game, but when you get them on PC you have to figure them out for yourself. If a console game isnt working you know its most likley a fault with the disc. On computers it can be a hardware problem, a drive problem, a disc problem, a hard drive problem, memory problem, a virus or you just forgot to “change the thing”. Troubleshooting on console is saying a swear and return to the store. Troubleshooting on console means hours on forums looking for patches.

5) Every little problem demands that you have to be a computer ace.
Ok. I have been a pc gamer sine the DoS era. I have installed games, and adjusted settings in dos! You know that black and white thing? If you can understand Dos you can understand most and I have time and time again tried to figure out what is wrong with this and that and found out on my own or by forum help. BUT I do not think its relaxing fun. Perhaps PC gamers think that the time and preparation for playing a game is part of the fun of gaming… But I DO NOT! I think its a hazzle and an annoyance. Today I was on steam and wanted to play a game I bought. I had tried it with a mouse and keyboard but found out that it was very troublesome to play like that so decided to finally try to use mt Xbox360 controller. You can do that you know and its “EASY”! Easy, of course in computer terms, means hours trying to figure out why it wasnt easy at all. I plugged in my controller, the computer registered it, but nothing happened. Then I went on forums. I installed drivers (that was already on my computer) and now it seems that I can not use that 360 type controller. It has to be another type. FUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!

Conclusion

All gamers are nerds in some way. Many can be asocial, weird, rude and sometimes downright anti-social. But you wont find bigger nerds than the PC gamer. The person who thinks that countless hours of preparation to play a game is “fun”. I would even go as far as saying that PC gamers aren’t gamers at all as the focus of playing games is secondary to to high graphics and latest tech stuff. If you enjoy bragging about what types of resolution your game have your sort of forgot what gaming is all about.

AndyAce83´s Let´s Play – Episode 03: Let´s Play UNO

Soo…

There are a lot of looser shut-ins when it comes to gaming. No denying that. Crazy people dreaming of mass-murdering their classmates while playing call of duty in the basement. Hitting themselves in the head when losing. Jup, lots of crazy people in the world and some have discovered the game controller.

But you know what? Sometimes “normal” people play games to and they may not be socially awkward. Or at least have the ability to be nice to others. Sometimes I want to focus on the social, non-violent parts of gameplay aswell. So here is AndyAce83´s Let´s Play – Episode 03: Let´s Play UNO

AndyAce83´s Let´s Play – Episode 06: BioShock 2 Multiplayer – “I Have No Dime For You”

Copyright… Sometimes it seems copy-wrong. I made a video featuring Bing Crosby singing a song from about 1931 called “Brother, can you spare a dime?“. Of course some people got the rights to that song soo… That means I have none. I got this message:

Press the image to get it larger.

Press the image to get it larger.

I disputed on fair use since I: 1) Did not use the entire song, 2) The song is old, 3) The song is a reference to the game, 4) its non commercial.

If you can watch this video then it worked. If not… Some guys just “owns the rights” to a song, written 82 years ago and song by a guy who died 36 years ago.

—————————————–

Now I am not a socialist so I am all for copyright! People should be able to own their own work, but there has to be reasonable limits. Using a song that is 82 years old, must be okay. Especially when it isnt being used in its entirety and the guy who sang it is long dead. The only people who make money of this is guys who buy and re-buy copyrights. In other words A$$HOLES! Copyright, yes. Copywrong, NO!

I also love the irony of the theme of the song and how some people will not “spare me a dime“.

AndyAce83´s Let´s Play – Episode 01: Let´s Try RE6 Survivor

18 Jul

Soo… I have a youtube account. Sometimes I make videos. One of the most simple types of videos, other than video rants with a webcam, are the Let´s Plays. Let´s Plays is when nerds start capturing video of gameplay and distributed it on youtube and other videosites on the interweb and claim that they somehow made those videos themselves when all they did was press record. Sometimes they comment either on topic or nonsensical, although some don´t say much at all. The last one is my favorite, but the ones talking nonsensical is the most common.

I saw some of those and thought “Hey, I can make some of those. I even have an annoying accent like that gay swede* who so many find fascinating.” So I did and I was right. It really is easy. If only I could afford a tool that could record the images directly too.

So here is the first Let´s Play i made. Its of a hated game called Resident Evil 6. A game I think too many are too hard on. The multiplayer versus is not that great, but then again few games are. But when it comes to co-op its rocking and great. I do miss the great melons of Sheva in RE5 though.

Microsoft in the head – The stupidity of Xbox One!

9 Jun

Sooo…

I just saw AngryJoe´s rant, part 2, on the Xbox One. And as with the first one, I totally agree with him. And now I want to give a piece of my mind as well to Microsoft´s nonsense. To jump on the bandwagon of hate that is the Xbox One.

I am what is called a “causal gamer“. I have played games since the NES, back in the 90´s but was mainly a computer-gamer until the Nintendo Game Cube came, which I bought to play all of the Resident Evil games, that got a re-release on that consoll.

Later, I bought the Wii as it seemed innovating and new. Unfortunately, I soon learned how fast the novilty wears out. I stil own it dough do to its backward compatibility with the GameCube.

I then bought the Xbox360,since Resident Evil 5 came out, and many of my friends owned it as well. The achievements, the later the avatars and the social aspects of the console made me a fanboy.

Soo… Since I am a “causal gamer” I dont need my console to be «pure» as some people online seem to complain about. I dont care that I can do alot of other stuff with my Xbox too. That is a pluss, and is already a big part of the Xbox360. To me there is no problem that Xbox wants to enhance the social aspects and focus on more than the one medium of gameing. I want to watch Netflix on my TV, and its nice I can do that on my console. The “all in one box” idea seems okay to me.

But this should be an added bonus to the XboxOne NOT THE ENTIRE THING! In the XboxOneReveal this seemed to be the only thing worth mentioning. All of the features I saw I can do on my PC if I wanted to. I do not need it, but again it would have been a nice bonus to the other great things about the XboxOne. But here´s the thing… There are no other things to the XboxOne. Only disadvantages to the owner.

First of, NON of the games presented wanted me to buy the new Xbox. I do not care for sports, most gamers I know dont care for sports either, and still half of the games mentioned was sports games made by EA. A company I do not like, (although I am not passionately against them either). I fortunately have never wanted any of their games.

Anyway… The second game reveal was a “realistic” FPS shooter game and again I DO NOT CARE! Perhaps because I am not a pacifist and have been in the army and shot with real guns and stood guard in the rain hating every second of it, I do not like «realistic» war games since the most real will always be the real. (Also I have a philosophical distaste for realness in the arts. But I want go into that now.)

But all of this again is not my main issue. Not even the forced kintect stuff. I dont want any KINECT! I didnt buy it for my 360, I have no need for it on any other console either. I have yet to see any reason to get one apart from the «wii novelty» I learned from buying the wii. That it is forced on me,, and I have to have it plugged in seems such a stupid solution that I smell fail all over.

Now I get pissed when I loose at a game. I can get irrationally (although non violently) angry and I do not want a camera in my face while I swear uncontrollably followed by childish whining of «how bad the game is». So I do not want a kinect when I loose and I really DONT WANT A KINECT connected all the time. But this, to me, is not the main issue either.

My main issue with the Xbox One, as a causal gamer, is that its not backwards compatible with the 360 and that games can not be redistributed.

I have now about 30 + games in my Xbox360 library. All of them bought new. Not since my old NES days did I try to resell any of my games. I am a collector (not a hoarder!). I collect books, music, films and games. I like to put it all on display to show friends and family what I enjoy and is important to me. Now, where am I going to place my old 360 games? In the bin perhaps? They will soon basically be useless. Especially since my old 360 console is making some strange ominous noises.

But even though I only buy games new, I do borrow games from friends, and that is for the XBOX ONE the same as buying used and “must not be allowed“. Yeah, yeah. Micrsoft did allow you to borrow your game to ONE friend… ONCE! Isnt that nice? Also, even if I do not buy, or sell used games, I do understand that others want to. And so, although I do not have a dog in that fight, I still think its nonsensical by Microsoft to do this.

Some geeks have said to me that there are reasons why the Xbox One cant read old Xbox 360 games. They basically say the same thing as wikipedia «The Xbox One will not be backward compatible with Xbox 360 content, as the systems use different core architectures. The Xbox 360 uses a PowerPC architecture while the Xbox One uses a x86-based one». The excuse does sound really good, but I know its just BS. If Microsoft wanted to they could. And dont give me the “PS3 did but it became to expensive” nonsense either. The first PS3, with backwards compatibility, was mainly expensive because it was NEW, not because it had backwards compatibility. Also, both PS4 and Xbox 360 has been called «PC in a box» because they are so «powerful». Well then, if XboxOne is so powerful, it could make an EFFING EMULATOR!!!

In sum: Xbox one is not a console I would recommended at this point. In fact, I would say, and I am sorry to swear, that the Xbox One is a shit cake with vomit icing. There is nothing redeemable at all. Nothing! They just dont give a *bleep*. This console was not made for the consumer, but for the cooperations. Note: I am not a socialist. I do not envy the rich and do not want to destroy the big producers. That said I still think that a good capitalist society is based on give and take. We as consumers have rights, and we SHOULD NOT BUY the Xbox One as its obviously not made for us to buy but only for Microsoft to sell…out. Get it? Made a pun there.
